I didn't have to restore my device database more than one or two times, but every time I had to restore the database, having a previous copy of the database helped me a lot and prevent me from resetting the device or having to do the "log out/log in" method from above). Hope it works (make sure to keep Kobo Utilities backing up your device every time you plug your device and access it in Calibre, this way if the device gets some type of minor corruption and it's under the same firmware/software version, you just have to replace a couple of files on the device and the database will be good again). Strangely enough, I still can find some books I uploaded to Kobo when the database was not supported because of the latest firmware, right now deleted the books, plugged and unplugged Kobo eReader about 2 times and right now, on the second time of unplugging Kobo said it was importing something and I could find books on the device that I just deleted moments ago, I think that they must have been linked to Calibre somehow and upon disconnecting the device, some of the books I updated during the time the database wasn't supported in Calibre showed up again in the device. I have to add that when clicking "Device" in Calibre it doesn't show any book (although it can detect that the device "Kobo Libra 2" is connected to the computer). I think it has to do with the database, as my Kobo Libra 2 restarted after unplugging from the computer and then a lot of recently side loaded books (and other books I was reading) were gone.
